Drew's transition to Professional !

Another proud parent moment when you realize your child has made a transition.

I traveled to Erie, Pa this weekend to see Drew's public presentation of his (team of 4) senior Mechanical Engineering project ... and left realizing he is a professional now.

This was not your ordinary High School science project, but a seriously professional job.

Senior projects are not required to to have prototypes built, but they went for it.

All parts received on Friday, built and 1st trial run Fri. 8pm ... SUCCESS !!
(or as Drew would say ... "and it actually worked")

Presentation, Sat 10:30am ... a couple overnighters to say the least.

Surely the company they workded with (with some production-minded alterations) will look into running with this and consider a patent.

The basic requirement was to create a mechanical device that separates blister packets of medicine into a prefab tray (different size from packets) in order to feed a robotic device for storage and retrieval of large quanties of medicine (pharmacy application). Currently, this process is done manually and takes about 90 sec.

Its Over

its all over ...

Drew's team lost sat by 8 or so, down earlier with Drew and Tommy with 2 fouls (guarding their best 2 players), made a run in the 2nd 1/2 back to 5, but no closer.

18-10 finish.

Outstanding 4 years: 83-31 (1 game short of last year senir's 84 win mark).

He's relieved he doesn't have to practice again.

I told him to weigh himself (185, 9% body fat) ... lightest he will ever be !!!

Home for spring break, working 3 full days at Hopkins Applied Physics lab and interviewing in other departments, and an interviewing with Army Corps of Eng ... looks like the business seniors in his class have no options at the moment !!

If he lands a job before the summer, he's off to Europe for 3 weeks prior to the start with 30 other college grads !!

Graduation: May 16 (Mechanical Enginneering) ... WHOOHOOO !!!

Drew's Senior Night

Drew's team won Saturday night, coming back from down 11 at half. Drew played well on Senior night (last home game), esp. in 2nd half with much needed energy play to mount the come back. The win secured 2nd place in the season ended conference tournament, meaning a bye to the final 4 next Fri/Sat (2/27-28) at Medialle College of Buffalo.

2 Wins in Buffalo wins the post season conference tournament, getting an automatic bid into the NCAA III tournament.

It was also confirmed, the senior class (of 2) has the 2nd most wins over a 4yr period (82-29) in Penn State Behrend school history. 2 more wins ties the Most record of 84 (last year's seniors), 3 more sets a new mark.
